Who is affected? There are countless individuals like myself trying to move out from a clinical residential setting or a hospital environment but due to lack of ‘community supports’ like home helps and personal assistant’s this is not always possible.

Paragraph 2: What is at stake? Supports for self-contained living means that those who are ready and willing to contribute to our society can make a difference and they are not being stuck at home because only their personal care needs are being met. I focus on raising awareness about the challenges of inclusivity for those living with disabilities. https://culturalfoundation.eu/stories/courageous-citizens-geraldine-lavelle/ Since then I have presented on national TV and Raidio, developed my website (https://thisability.ie/ written a book and been part of several projects creating awareness around the challenges faced by those living with a disability in Ireland. The problem is bigger than just financial support, it’s also the lack of understanding. Those who need help need to be heard. There are people out there who are incarcerated by circumstances out of their control. I wish to continue advocating on their behalf through my work in the Western people Newspaper. I hope to inspire others to become active by showcasing activities at all levels of abilities by partaking in the Western people’s mini marathon in April. Highlighting the importance of inclusiveness both mentally and physically for individuals with physical disabilities is something I strive to achieve daily. This year I am delighted to be taking part in a seminar focusing on disability and understanding more about accessibility at NUIG I will be giving several talks on the topic of resilience this month to large companies such as AbbVie and Irishrail. I am currently trying to publish a childrens book aimed at raising awareness to the younger community on key issues impacting individuals with disabilities. I feel I give a direct voice and representation to the disabled people with disabilities in Ireland.

Paragraph 3: Why is now the time to act? I wish to continue my work as a Disability Activist and Ambassador writing and raising awareness about life, disability, attitudes, expectations and my lived experience as a disabled personsn on Ireland.I don’t want the focus to shift just to survive. I want to make a positive impact to other’s lives by creating change. Help me continue to do my work: I receive 47hours a week care living in a residential setting and night time help and I’m just about coping. Now the HSE can only provide 40hours a week help with no night time supports. I know people in my situation receiving upwards of 60hours a week and living with a relatively good standard of living on their own. Please sign this petition to enable me to get enough HSE support to continue my work whilst living in the community
